Work Experience

v    2003-Present: Information Specialist – Elantys, Help design customer specific software working mainly with databases in MS Access. Provide customer support, and act as liaison between customers and software engineers to ensure databases are accurate and working properly. QC data in customer database to ensure all dependant reports, etc. are correct. Troubleshoot customer production data issues.

v    2001-2003: Student worker - University of Texas Medical Branch, BioMedical Institute. Maintained database by assembling, editing and preparing visual (video and still images) material for CephBase (www.cephbase.utmb.edu), an online digital library of cephalopod life history information, including a publication:

v    2000-2001: Assisted Dr. Leslie Cornick on her Ph.D. project concerning the feeding behaviors of steller sea lions in Seward, AK. The work included a year in Galveston performing video analysis of captive steller sea lions, followed by a three month stay in Seward, AK directly assisting in the actual research. Gained considerable experience in sea lion husbandry and dietary requirements.


Volunteer Experience

v    2003 – present: Volunteer at the Houston Zoo with the sea lions and koalas. Daily husbandry duties such as diets, cleaning, and observation.

v    Summer of 2001: Volunteered in the Research and Rehabilitation Center of the Alaska SeaLife Center while in Seward, AK. Worked hands on with stranded marine mammals (tube feeding, fish training, general husbandry). Prepared meals, cleaned holding tanks, aided vets with general medical procedures (IV’s, shots, etc.).

v    1999-2000: Volunteered for Marine Mammal Stranded Network. Work involved observation of stranded animals after rescue. Recorded respiratory rates, behaviors, assisted with feeding.


Additional Information

v    High level of computer literacy: Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications on both PC’s and Macintosh computers. Experienced with graphics and video editing/publishing, html, java script, web page layout/design, database layout and editing.

v    Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well in a group and in individual projects, and thrive when faced with challenges.
